The Cabinet Secretariat has held a two day Training Workshop  for Cabinet Focal Persons in Ministries on Wednesday 17th  and Friday 19th February, 2016; at the Civil Service Training College, Tower Hill, Freetown. The Chairperson for the event was the Secretary to the Cabinet and Head of the Civil Service, Dr. Ernest  Sahid  Alie  Surrur, who briefly explained the role of the Cabinet Focal Persons.

"This Workshop is focused on Cabinet Focal Persons' role in supporting their Ministries to prepare evidence - informed Cabinet Memoranda that comply with Cabinet's requirements. It responds to the recommendations of some Ministers that Ministries do not have adequate capacity to draft such Memoranda", says Dr. Surrur.

"The Workshop will provide an opportunity to discuss ways to strengthen the effectiveness of Cabinet Focal Persons as well as receiving the requirements of the Cabinet Memo Template and undertaking practical exercises in Memo preparation", he adds.

Review of Cabinet Memo Template was done by Director of Cabinet Affairs, Ms. Sonia Karim. Introduction to case study 1-Memo on Power Generation was done by Senior Management  Analyst, Mr. Mohamed Yoki. Introduction to case study 2-Export Processing was done by Executive Director,  Africa Cabinet Government Network, Dr. Mark Johnston.

Cabinet Focal Persons and Assistants who are actively involved in the preparation of Memos in Ministries were in attendance. Participants described the workshop as successful and interesting. " We have learnt a lot from the excellent presentations and interesting exercises. This workshop will help us achieve positive results and create the much needed great  impacts", said Gibril Bah, Cabinet Focal Person in the Ministry of Youth Affairs.  The Ministry of Social Welfare, Gender and Children's  Affairs , Cabinet Focal Person, Osman Kanu, says, "The workshop is very successful, timely and appropriate. We are now well equipped with skills that will help us write good cabinet papers/memos".

The event was climaxed by group memo exercises and presentations on case studies /results. Review of case studies was done by the Cabinet Secretariat Team , led by Mr. Francis M. Jabati, Head of the Cabinet Policy Review Unit.
